Julia Macdonald “Julie” Hammond
Today, I am thinking of my Auntie Julie and her friends and family. Many of her friends will be gathered today at St.Marks in Cygnet, honoring her life and the lifelong friendships she has created. A large number of old school friends and family will be unable to attend in person, but will no doubt be thinking of her today. I have many great memories and I am thinking about her amazing life which saw her travel from Australia across the globe. Italy had a special place in her heart and was the start of her stellar business career. From the cobbled streets in Double Bay, Julie ran one of the finest shoe and handbag boutiques in Australia, the height of fashion and style. Later Julie would go on to have several business ventures, including in Agriculture, running a substantial lychee farm in Murwillumbah, and then in Bowral, supporting the Arts Community with Gallery J. Julie's art gallery in Bowral brought together artisans from all over the region and Australia, showcasing their talents in her beautiful gallery. For nearly 20 years Julie has called Tasmania home. Her beautiful home is surrounded by over 300 rose bushes which she faithfully pruned each year. Staying very active, with many friends, Julie was much loved in the community. In the later years of her life, she was joined in Tasmania by her sister Claire who recently passed away. My Dad, John loved his visit to Tasmania to see Julie and the life she was creating for herself there. From a personal perspective, I have so much admiration for my Auntie who has lived a full, vibrant, and happy life. My memories of dinners at Links House in Bowral, lots of laughter when we were all together, thoughtful gifts always under the tree at Christmas, and my Dad's great love and respect for his sister and her achievements will be with me forever. My deepest condolences to her brother Sandy Hammond, Dinny who was a lifelong friend to Julie, Ip, and her many dear friends in Tasmania who made her time there so happy. I hope that you can toast a glass of champagne to a wonderful Auntie, beloved sister, and a truly dear friend. In loving memory, rest in peace Julia Macdonald Hammond.
